Description
Nandina domestica ‘Gulfstream’, commonly known as Heavenly Bamboo, is a striking evergreen shrub prized for its compact growth habit and year-round ornamental appeal. Originating from East Asia, this cultivar is distinguished by its vibrant foliage that transitions through a spectrum of colors—from bright chartreuse in spring to golden yellow in summer, and radiant coral-red in fall and winter—adding dynamic seasonal interest to landscapes. Unlike traditional nandinas, ‘Gulfstream’ maintains a tidy, well-mannered form without the invasive tendencies, making it an excellent choice for foundation plantings, containers, and mixed borders. It is also noted for its tolerance to heat, drought, and varying soil types, thriving in full sun to part shade conditions. This cultivar has garnered recognition for its superior foliage color and compact habit, making it a favorite among gardeners seeking a versatile, low-maintenance evergreen shrub with multi-seasonal visual impact.
