Description
Ilex x meserveae ‘Mesid’ Blue Maid™ Blue Holly is a hybrid holly known for its striking blue-green evergreen foliage and vibrant red berries that provide year-round interest in landscapes. Developed by the Meserve Hybrid Holly program, this cultivar combines the hardiness and disease resistance of its parent species, making it well-suited for a range of climates, especially in colder regions. The plant features a compact, upright growth habit, typically reaching moderate heights, and is valued for its glossy leaves with spiny edges that add texture and visual appeal. Blue Maid™ Blue Holly is dioecious, meaning male and female plants are required for berry production, which are highly attractive to birds and beneficial for wildlife. Its versatility as a formal hedge, foundation planting, or specimen shrub, along with low maintenance requirements, make it a popular choice among gardeners and landscapers. Recognized for its exceptional garden performance, it has gained popularity in ornamental horticulture for combining ornamental beauty with resilience.
