Description
Osmanthus fragrans, commonly known as Tea Olive, is a highly valued evergreen shrub or small tree prized for its intensely fragrant flowers that bloom in late summer to fall. Native to Asia, particularly China and Japan, this plant has been cultivated for centuries not only for its ornamental appeal but also for its use in perfumery and traditional tea flavoring. Tea Olive features glossy, dark green leaves and produces small, creamy white to pale yellow blossoms that emit a sweet, apricot-like scent, making it a favorite for sensory gardens and borders. It thrives in well-drained soils with full to partial sun and is appreciated for its low maintenance and drought tolerance once established. Osmanthus fragrans has been recognized for its exceptional fragrance and landscaping versatility, earning a respected place in both formal and informal garden settings.
