Description
Ginkgo biloba ‘Fastigiata’, commonly known as the Maidenhair Tree, is a distinctive cultivar prized for its upright, columnar growth habit and unique fan-shaped leaves that turn a brilliant golden yellow in the fall. This ancient tree species, often referred to as a “living fossil,” dates back over 200 million years and is the sole surviving member of its botanical family, Ginkgoaceae. Renowned for its exceptional resilience to pollution, pests, and urban conditions, ‘Fastigiata’ is an ideal choice for narrow spaces and formal landscapes, providing vertical interest without excessive spread. Its slow to moderate growth rate and striking fall color make it a standout specimen tree in both residential and commercial settings. Ginkgo biloba has a rich cultural history, especially in East Asia, where it is revered for longevity and endurance, and ‘Fastigiata’ continues this legacy with its elegant architectural form.
