Description

Dull edge tools slow down hand joinery and tear wood fibers across fine cabinet end grain. The Tormek T-8 Original 100-240V Sharpening Systems & Rotating Base Bundle delivers mirror-sharp industrial edge maintenance with a continuous induction motor spinning at 90 RPM. This heavy water-cooled sharpening system requires dedicated bench space and cannot operate dry without destroying grindstones.

A solid cast zinc top frame integrates universal support sleeves directly into the motor housing, eliminating carriage vibration during heavy tool grinding. The industrial induction motor drives the stainless steel main shaft via a heavy composite friction wheel, turning the 10-inch grindstone without speed degradation. The bundled RB-180 rotating base allows operators to swivel the entire machine 180 degrees between grinding and honing positions without splashing cooling water.

Rotary Base Sharpener Specifications

The included RB-180 rotating base allows seamless transition between stone grinding and leather stropping stations. Precision universal support bars maintain exact micro-adjustable tool bevel angles across chisels and plane irons.

  • Continuous-duty industrial induction motor runs at 90 RPM without thermal cutout risks during all-day use
  • Cast zinc housing frame secures universal support sleeves to eliminate tool guide vibration
  • 10-inch SG-250 grindstone alters grit between 220-grit coarse shaping and 1000-grit fine honing
  • RB-180 rotating base swivels machine smoothly between grinding wheel and leather stropping wheel
  • Advanced water trough features an integrated magnetic scraper that pulls abrasive steel slurry out of suspension
  • Precision stainless steel main drive shaft resists rust and corrosion from continuous water exposure
  • Composite leather stropping wheel removes micro-burrs to deliver razor-sharp timber cutting edges

Dyno Bench Shaft Telemetry

Bench testing on a 120-volt line records 1.7 amperes current draw during wide high-speed steel planer knife grinding passes. Shaft rotational speed maintains 90 RPM under heavy jig clamping pressure. Main shaft runout measures less than 0.0004 inches total indicator reading. Induction motor housing temperature rises 15 degrees Fahrenheit after four hours of continuous machine use. Sound level registers 54 dBA at operator position.

Operational Boundaries Field Service

This heavy sharpening system requires accurate diamond truing to maintain a flat stone face across wide blade passes. Millwork shops should not grind chipped carbide planer inserts on the standard aluminum oxide stone without switching to silicon carbide wheels. Never leave the grindstone resting submersed in water overnight to prevent stone balance distortion.

  • True the grindstone face using the TT-50 diamond tool before sharpening wide edge tool sets.
  • Wipe magnetic slurry residue from the water trough collector after every commercial sharpening run.
  • Apply thin machine oil to the leather honing wheel before adding fine abrasive paste.
  • Inspect tool jig guide rails and wipe clean of steel filings using clean microfiber towels.
  • Swivel the machine gently on the RB-180 rotating base to prevent splashing water over bench tops.
