Description
Filicium decipiens, commonly known as Ferntree, is an evergreen tree native to Madagascar, known for its finely divided, fern-like foliage that creates a delicate, airy canopy. This tropical species features glossy, dark green leaves composed of multiple small leaflets, giving it a distinctive ferny appearance despite being a flowering tree. Ferntree typically grows to a moderate height, making it an excellent choice for ornamental landscaping in warm climates where it provides light shade and an elegant silhouette. Valued for its drought tolerance and adaptability to various soil types, Filicium decipiens thrives in full sun to partial shade and adds a tropical flair to gardens and streetscapes. Its unique foliage and manageable size have made it a popular specimen in subtropical and Mediterranean-style landscapes, with a history of cultivation dating back to early botanical explorations in Madagascar. Recognized for its ornamental appeal, Ferntree has been appreciated in landscape design circles for its graceful texture and year-round greenery.
