Description
Vaccinium x ‘Sunshine Blue’ Southern Highbush Blueberry is a versatile and highly ornamental blueberry cultivar prized for its compact size, vibrant foliage, and prolific fruit production. Developed as a southern highbush variety, it thrives in warmer climates where traditional northern highbush blueberries struggle, making it an excellent choice for gardeners in USDA zones 7 through 10. Unique for its semi-evergreen leaves that can hold color well into fall, ‘Sunshine Blue’ also features attractive white to pale pink bell-shaped flowers in spring, followed by abundant clusters of sweet, flavorful blue berries ideal for fresh eating or culinary use. This cultivar is self-fertile, reducing the need for cross-pollination, and exhibits strong resistance to common blueberry diseases, contributing to its popularity among home gardeners and landscapers alike. Its versatility extends to container planting, patio gardening, and landscape borders, where it adds both ornamental beauty and edible value. Recognized for its exceptional adaptability and fruit quality, ‘Sunshine Blue’ has earned acclaim as a reliable and attractive choice for southern blueberry cultivation.
