Description
Lagerstroemia x ‘Ebony Fire’ Crape Myrtle is a striking hybrid known for its exceptional ornamental qualities and vibrant autumn foliage. This deciduous shrub or small tree features rich, dark purple to almost black bark that exfoliates to reveal smooth, cinnamon-colored underbark, adding year-round visual interest. In summer, it produces abundant panicles of bright red flowers that contrast beautifully with the glossy, dark green leaves, which turn fiery shades of red and orange in fall. Originating from the Lagerstroemia genus native to Asia, ‘Ebony Fire’ was selectively bred to enhance its intense coloration and compact growth habit, making it a popular choice for landscapes requiring bold texture and color. Its disease resistance and tolerance to heat and drought contribute to its ease of maintenance. ‘Ebony Fire’ has been recognized within horticultural circles for its garden performance and dramatic appearance, earning accolades for its standout foliage and multi-season interest.
