Description
Vinca minor ‘Alba’, commonly known as Common Periwinkle, is a versatile and hardy evergreen groundcover prized for its dense mat-forming habit and delicate white flowers. Native to Europe but widely naturalized in North America, this plant is valued for its ability to thrive in a variety of soil conditions and light exposures, from full sun to deep shade, making it an excellent choice for erosion control and underplanting in shaded garden areas. Its trailing stems can root at nodes, allowing it to spread effectively and create a lush green carpet throughout the growing season. The white blooms of ‘Alba’ typically appear in spring and intermittently through the summer, providing subtle yet elegant color contrast against glossy, dark green foliage. Its low-maintenance nature, combined with resistance to deer and drought tolerance, has made Vinca minor ‘Alba’ a popular selection for both residential and commercial landscapes. The plant’s long history of use in traditional European gardens highlights its enduring appeal and adaptability in diverse garden settings.
