Description
Spiraea douglasii, commonly known as Douglas Spirea, is a deciduous shrub native to western North America, particularly thriving in moist habitats such as wetlands and along stream banks. This species is distinguished by its arching stems and clusters of delicate, rose-pink flowers that bloom profusely in summer, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The finely textured, serrated leaves turn a vibrant yellow in autumn, adding seasonal interest. Its tolerance for wet soils and adaptability to various landscape conditions make it a valuable plant for naturalistic gardens and restoration projects. Historically, Douglas Spirea has been appreciated for its ecological role in stabilizing riparian zones and providing habitat. Its graceful form and resilience have earned it recognition among native plant enthusiasts and conservationists.
