Description
Cotinus coggygria ‘NCCO1’ Winecraft Black® Smoke Bush is a striking deciduous shrub known for its deep, almost black foliage that creates a dramatic contrast in landscape designs. This cultivar, part of the Color Choice® series, features richly colored leaves that emerge a dark purple to near-black in spring and summer, providing a bold accent throughout the growing season. In late spring to early summer, it produces the signature wispy, smoke-like plumes of pinkish hairs that give the Smoke Bush its common name, adding a soft, ethereal texture to gardens. Originally native to southern Europe and central Asia, Cotinus coggygria has been cultivated for centuries for its ornamental value, prized for its vibrant fall color and unique floral display. Winecraft Black® is especially valued for its compact growth habit, making it suitable for smaller gardens or container planting. Its heat and drought tolerance make it a versatile choice for various landscape settings. This cultivar has been recognized within the horticultural community for its exceptional foliage color stability and garden performance.
